My last cigarette

as I contemplate

life after the

fact and imagine

that life might

improve once I

accept the reality

of loss and

the finality of

choice as decisions

all have consequences

and I force

myself to focus

on a gettable

objective, a box

of 20’s, replacing

her might take

longer.
